About MakeMyBookCover
MakeMyBookCover generates book covers anchored to real bestseller patterns — not generic AI art. Where we have coded a genre, its archetypes are built from that coded sample, so the covers we hand back look like they belong on the shelf next to the books they're competing with.
Who's behind this
Evan Kane is the founder of MakeMyBookCover and runs the cover-archetype research behind the product — coding category bestseller lists by hand for every genre in the Bestseller Cover Visual DNA Index, and re-coding them as the lists move, to keep the genre-signal models honest.
The research program
Direct visual inspection of current category bestseller lists, coded by hand against a fixed set of axes. Observational, not causal — these are patterns on the shelf, not evidence that any pattern causes sales. The current dataset covers 332 bestseller covers across 6 genres, last refreshed 2026-Q3. The coded genres and the wizard's genre list overlap but are not identical: nonfiction is generatable but not yet coded, and cookbook and poetry are coded but not yet generatable. So this feeds the archetype sets where the two meet, and the visual-DNA breakdowns published on the blog.
